Build the fight, then run it in the same place.

A 5e fight usually runs across three things at once: a stat block, a set of dice, and a sheet of hit points erased and rewritten all night. StoryVue runs it as one surface. Build the roster from your own creatures or the bundled SRD bestiary, check it against your party, then track initiative, hit points, and conditions in the same screen where you rolled to get there.

Build the roster from your own creatures, or the bundled bestiary.

Add combatants from creatures you already built, or pull straight from 656 stat blocks across both 5e System Reference Documents, searchable by name, challenge rating, and type, one click from joining your world. StoryVue reads the roster against your party and shows the difficulty band before you ever roll initiative, so a fight that looks fair on paper doesn't turn out to be a slaughter at the table.

StoryVue's compendium: a searchable monster list with challenge ratings beside a full stat block, with both 5e System Reference Documents enabled as sources.

Run initiative in the same window you built the fight.

The run view is two panes with a sticky turn strip and a Next-up read: hit points as meters, conditions as chips that can carry a timer. Temp HP, death saves, concentration, and legendary pips track per combatant, with group initiative and rule-neutral tie highlighting. Click an attack to roll it: advantage or disadvantage, natural 1 and natural 20 flagged, damage rolled per packet against a target's AC, applied full or half, or Heal when the fight turns. Move the turn with N and B, and open any SRD condition's rules with a tap.

A StoryVue encounter mid-run: an initiative-ordered combatant list with hit points and conditions, and a quick-reference stat block for the active creature.
Shown: an encounter run with bundled 5e SRD monsters.

Fights that change shape mid-round.

A fight rarely goes exactly as prepped, and StoryVue doesn't force it to stay the shape it started in. Reinforcements can arrive mid-fight without rebuilding the encounter from scratch. A combatant who wants to wait can delay past their turn, and Act now interjects them back into the order the moment you say so.

Neither one rewrites anyone else's turn. The order you built stays the order, with room for the one combatant doing something the initiative roll didn't predict.

What the fight leaves behind.

End the fight and StoryVue pre-fills an editable outcome: who went down, what the party walked away with, how it actually ended. Confirm it and that summary logs itself into the running session the same way everything else that night does, no separate write-up required. From there it's already sitting in the chapter StoryVue assembles from your log: see how the whole thing works on the campaign journal page.
